Insta~love #2

It’s time for another round of insta~love, where I share the instagram accounts I have been scrolling through until I get all the way back to 2010.

Sian & I often have discussion about how we want to be part of Little Mix –  I mean, who wouldn’t?  Anyway, Perrie’s instagram is my favourite because 1) I have a HUGE girl crush on here 2) She gives me outfit envy on a daily basis 3) She’s just really cool, okay?

Follow her for your fill of girl band goodness, cute doggies & outfit inspo.

I recently discovered the wonders of #bookstagram. This trend consists of people sharing what books they’ve been reading in the form of beautiful pictures. I love scrolling through this hashtag, spotting books I want to read and having serious bookshelf envy. Hayaisreading is one of my favourite accounts as her pictures are always themed and wonderfully set up. You can tell she puts time and effort into her posts.

Follow for all things aesthically pleasing & book-related.

Carrie is an incredible woman ~ author, actor, youtuber, songwriter, all round do gooder & disney lover. She just emanates happiness & good vibes. She has currently just finished her run at Les Mis, which I saw her in a few years ago & was blown away by her talent! She is now set to be Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which has now moved onto the top of my ‘to see at the theatre’ list. Oh and did I mention she recently cut off all her long hair and donated it to make wigs for people who need them most – like I said before, an incredible woman! I highly recommend watching her Youtube videos which I will link here.

Follow for disney related, theatre related, adorableness.

Let me know if there are any accounts you think I should check out! Make sure to have at look my insta too 🙂

A reminder

Recently I have had a lot of people say this or something similar to me – “when you don’t have depression any more…”.

I want to make it clear to those who do not have a mental illness ~ it doesn’t disappear one day. Yes, my good days are more frequent than my bad ones. Sometimes weeks go by without a hint of depression or anxiety in sight. That doesn’t mean it’s gone. It means I’m learning to cope better.

Unfortunately I cannot predict the future and life often throws things at us that we are not expecting. I may be able to take these in my stride or one of them might flip me upside down & inside out and I will be back in that dark place. I just do not know. No one knows.

For those who have loved ones who have mental illnesses and know this already, please do not think I am writing this to patronise you. This is simply something that I have experienced recently & wanted to share my thoughts on.

Anyone else had a simple experience?

What I loved in February

Watching monthly favourites on Youtube is one of the ways I love spending my time. I really enjoy hearing about new products, TV shows, books, music etc that I wasn’t aware of before. Maybe it is something about discovering and trying new things. Anyway, I digress. Instead of making Youtube videos because I’ll be honest, I do not have the patience, I thought I would *try* to write up a list of what I have been loving each month.

One of my resolutions was to read more books this year. Having a lengthy commute to work means I have a lot of time for catching up on all those books I’ve had on my ‘to read’ list for years.

I’ll admit I was a little sceptical about reading this book at first due to the serious topic that the story is based around. For anyone who doesn’t know, the story follows a young woman and her son who are being held captive in a man’s basement. However, I had heard good things about the film and I thought it was worth a try. I think it took about a page for the story to grip me and then I was hooked. I read the book so quickly because I became completely wrapped up in the story it told. I loved that it was written from the young boy’s perspective as it gave a real insight into the character. The story moves quickly but it is written brilliantly. I think my only criticism is that I really want to know what happens after the book ends but this is something that the author addresses in the epilogue. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a sequel but in some ways I think it might take away from the original. However, I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a quick but gripping read.

I Am Malala

This is book that has been sat on my ‘to read’ shelf on Goodreads since the day it came out. Although it took me a while to get round to it I actually read this book in a day. I don’t think I need to tell you how inspiring this wonderful girl is, all I can say is that I am completely in awe of her. Throughout the whole book you get the sense that she does not realise how completely amazing she is.  A truly inspiring read.

TV Programmes

Shona Rhimes. SHONDA FREAAAAKING RHIMES. If you don’t know who I am talking about, she’s the person behind How To Get Away With MurderScandal – my favourite tv shows this month.

If you want something to get completely hooked on, these shows are for you! I don’t wanna give too much away so I’ll leave the trailers below.

How To Get Away With Murder

I have been trying to be more aware of what I put on my skin, where it comes from and how it is made. Cruelty free products are not as hard to come by as you may think and with so much information about them now, there really isn’t an excuse to not make the effort.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skincare Range

My skin has been so bad recently and the only thing I found to remedy it has been these products. I bought the cleanser, toner & moisturiser in the lead up to Christmas and the oil & pore minimiser in the January sales. They are inexpensive, long lasting and have worked wonders on my skin. If you suffer with spots I would highly recommend these to you. Tea tree oil is a natural anti-septic so it really helps make your skin feel clearer.

The 1975

I am so glad they have come out with another album as I loved their first. I haven’t listened to it in full yet but Love Me and The Sound are such funky little tunes. Stick those on when you’re getting ready in the morning & have a little boogie. I guarantee it will brighten up your day.

Every month I will briefly talk about my favourite things that have happened within it.

Care Package

My wonderful friend Emily got this beautiful box delivered to my door filled with my some of my favourite things to congratulate me on my new job. My all time favourite thing is people surprising me with thoughtful gifts. I’m not one for big, fancy, over the top presents so receiving something that has personal meaning is really sweet.

For Valentine’s Day I went to visit my life long best bud in York. You can read all about it here – My First Time in York

Two of my favourite people have the same birthday – my gorgeous nephew and my beautiful best friend, Sian. I went to see my nephew for his first birthday and had a fabulous time watching him discover the joys of cake – he stole three pieces from other people’s plates and  ate them all. I have clearly taught him well. I also drove up  to see Sian for her birthday and in a few weeks we are off to see Adele together! (which I’m sure will be a March favourite).

Living the dream: my first week at work

Seeing as I have just started a new internship I thought I would write a little post about my first couple of weeks there. As I type this, I am currently sitting on the tube on my way into work. Now that I am using the tube more frequently I would have hoped to have seen someone at least vaguely famous by now. Alas, no celebrity needs to be on a tube at 7 in the morning.

That’s the first thing I’m going to address – the early mornings. I have to admit I was a little apprehensive about how early I would need to wake up and how late I would be getting home. Honestly, I barely notice. Okay that’s a lie, I do notice the early mornings, especially today, but on the whole it’s affected  me less than I was anticipating. I think that is probably down to how much I am enjoying the job.

I absolutely adore this job. For anyone not 100% sure of what they want to do I suggest interning somewhere. This internship has confirmed to me how much I love the job and how much I want to make it my career. If I could go straight into a permanent role from this internship I would but I think I should probably finish that degree I’m spending 21k on first! Don’t get me wrong I am very excited to go back to uni and I absolutely love my course. It’s just nice to know that I’m also going to really enjoy the career I have picked. Thank god I didn’t take anyone’s advice to be a lawyer!

My first few days have been fast paced to say the least. We are working on a huge project and there are some tight deadlines but getting my teeth stuck into something is exactly what I wanted to do. I also had an induction day with all the other interns in the organisation. We had talks from all different departments as well as those awkward ice breakers everyone thinks are a good idea. However, the other interns all seem lovely which is an added bonus as I was the only intern in my last job. The talks from the departments were very interesting and inspiring and they encouraged us to get involved as much as possible. I came away so hyped about the whole thing. In fact that’s how I finish every day at the moment. Every day on the train home I text my dad and my boyfriend with something along the lines of “OMG I LOVE THIS. THIS IS MY DREAM JOB! AHHHHH”.

So that’s why I’ve failed to post anything on here in a while. My excitement at the end of the day quickly turns into tiredness which means I’ve fallen asleep at 9.30 every night this week. Grandma over here! Never mind, I can deal with being a grandma if every day is like this!

If anyone has any questions about being an intern, do not hesitate to contact me on social media.

What is your dream job?
