Watching monthly favourites on Youtube is one of the ways I love spending my time. I really enjoy hearing about new products, TV shows, books, music etc that I wasn’t aware of before. Maybe it is something about discovering and trying new things. Anyway, I digress. Instead of making Youtube videos because I’ll be honest, I do not have the patience, I thought I would *try* to write up a list of what I have been loving each month.
One of my resolutions was to read more books this year. Having a lengthy commute to work means I have a lot of time for catching up on all those books I’ve had on my ‘to read’ list for years.
I’ll admit I was a little sceptical about reading this book at first due to the serious topic that the story is based around. For anyone who doesn’t know, the story follows a young woman and her son who are being held captive in a man’s basement. However, I had heard good things about the film and I thought it was worth a try. I think it took about a page for the story to grip me and then I was hooked. I read the book so quickly because I became completely wrapped up in the story it told. I loved that it was written from the young boy’s perspective as it gave a real insight into the character. The story moves quickly but it is written brilliantly. I think my only criticism is that I really want to know what happens after the book ends but this is something that the author addresses in the epilogue. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a sequel but in some ways I think it might take away from the original. However, I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a quick but gripping read.
I Am Malala
This is book that has been sat on my ‘to read’ shelf on Goodreads since the day it came out. Although it took me a while to get round to it I actually read this book in a day. I don’t think I need to tell you how inspiring this wonderful girl is, all I can say is that I am completely in awe of her. Throughout the whole book you get the sense that she does not realise how completely amazing she is. A truly inspiring read.
Shona Rhimes. SHONDA FREAAAAKING RHIMES. If you don’t know who I am talking about, she’s the person behind How To Get Away With Murder & Scandal – my favourite tv shows this month.
If you want something to get completely hooked on, these shows are for you! I don’t wanna give too much away so I’ll leave the trailers below.
How To Get Away With Murder
I have been trying to be more aware of what I put on my skin, where it comes from and how it is made. Cruelty free products are not as hard to come by as you may think and with so much information about them now, there really isn’t an excuse to not make the effort.
The Body Shop Tea Tree Skincare Range
My skin has been so bad recently and the only thing I found to remedy it has been these products. I bought the cleanser, toner & moisturiser in the lead up to Christmas and the oil & pore minimiser in the January sales. They are inexpensive, long lasting and have worked wonders on my skin. If you suffer with spots I would highly recommend these to you. Tea tree oil is a natural anti-septic so it really helps make your skin feel clearer.
I am so glad they have come out with another album as I loved their first. I haven’t listened to it in full yet but Love Me and The Sound are such funky little tunes. Stick those on when you’re getting ready in the morning & have a little boogie. I guarantee it will brighten up your day.
Every month I will briefly talk about my favourite things that have happened within it.
My wonderful friend Emily got this beautiful box delivered to my door filled with my some of my favourite things to congratulate me on my new job. My all time favourite thing is people surprising me with thoughtful gifts. I’m not one for big, fancy, over the top presents so receiving something that has personal meaning is really sweet.
For Valentine’s Day I went to visit my life long best bud in York. You can read all about it here – My First Time in York
Two of my favourite people have the same birthday – my gorgeous nephew and my beautiful best friend, Sian. I went to see my nephew for his first birthday and had a fabulous time watching him discover the joys of cake – he stole three pieces from other people’s plates and ate them all. I have clearly taught him well. I also drove up to see Sian for her birthday and in a few weeks we are off to see Adele together! (which I’m sure will be a March favourite).
